I really didn't even finish reading it, I hated it so much. There was just too much evil, strangeness, and too many things that were sort of paranormal about it.
I recall when I was young, my parents took me to see the Disney version, and I didn't like that for much the same reason.
Fantasy is one thing, but when it is taken to that extreme, it's just too much.
I don't consider this book appropriate for young children. Children I have seen watching that movie, were just too frightened to enjoy the movie.
